The Plan
Boundary No Boundary
Boundary No Boundary is a physical & visual exploration of the Wakefield District Boundary.
I will walk, paint & document this 60-mile long line which appears on maps but has no objective reality on the ground.
I would like the communities near the boundary on either side will join me & document their experiences with voice recordings, sketches & written statements during 20 open public co-production events (stages), 2 guided walks and 3 work in progress exhibitions and co-productions in Libraries to generate content from a wider audience.
As well as collecting these stories I will create paintings of the entire route.
The Wakefield boundary is approximately 60 miles long and I will divide it in to 20 x 3 miles stages.
When walking each stage I will find a place to paint. I will paint on three panels (each 15cm x 30cm) recording what I see in 180 degrees from horizon to horizon looking outwards from the district. On a flat landscape, the visible distance to the horizon is approximately 3 miles. When finished the series of 60 paintings will record a complete view from the boundary looking out.
An exhibition & online resource will show the work created by myself & participants.
I will be working with creative producer David Gilbert to create the exhibition.
